BackupExec 12.5 SAS Backup

Dear All,

We are currently in the process of configuring Backup 12.5 for windows and wanted some advise. We have an LSI SAS Switch and a JBOD. The backup server and the servers to be backed up will all have SAS Connections. So wanted some best practice advice on configuring it.

We obviously want to ensure that all backups happen over SAS network and no backup traffic should flow over normal network. So how shall we configure the SAS Network? Should each server to be backed up be configured as Media Server with disks from the JBOD Zonned in? Or shall we have only the Backup Exec Server view all jbod disks and have it as the only media server? If so, how do we ensure that all clients are backed up via SAS and not normal IP network. Any useful pointers in the direction will be much appreciated.

Disk storage devices are kind of limited in how they are shared by multiple Windows servers unless you build a cluster. Because of this, the Backup Exec Shared Storage Option is designed for tape libraries.

As such if you want to do backups over SAS from multiple windows servers then each server will need to be a media server and each server will need their own unique LUN defined inside the JBOD/disk array (with their own zoning) As such do not configured the storage as a single entity.
