Barcodes

My tape library has a barcode reader. It can not be disabled.  I DO NOT want to use the barcodes on the tapes for my Media Labels in Backup Exec 10.
Is there a way to make Backup Exec ignore the barcode labels?  I want to lable my tapes manually.

The barcodes on the tapes are necessary for our offsite storage solution.

The only way I know to avoid having the bar code label used as the media label is to do a label job and the first overwrite job on a stand-alone drive.  So, basically no.  If you do not mind a little risk, can you open the library and remove the bar code reader?  Some are easily removed, some are not.  Or put some tape over the bar code reader sensor?
