Bare minimum backup

This is probably a real easy one for alot of you. We have a little space left on our backup tape and I was thinking of expanding our nightly backup job to backup the system state of a member server. My question is as a bare minimum can I get away with just a system state backup to help recover the server later. I used to think yes but now I'm wondering if all the registry keys are backed up in the sysytem state, I would assume the server installation would be hosed if I didn't also backup all the program files directories.

Hi,

The bare minimum backup that I would take to bring the server back to its last backup state if it were completely hosed would be of the SYSTEM Drive ( c:\ ) and system state.

You could get way with backing up just the "Program files" and the "WinNt" directories alsong with system state but you should test it out on a spare machine.
