Basic Question on Adding Remote Agent and Installing

I have spent considerable time getting Version 10 updated for our needs.

We have an additional agent license. The only way I see to add the number is to do both a local install and remote install.

Without changing any of the existing settings on the local install and just pushing the agent out will the existing local install be left intact and unchanged - will the previous updates remain in effect?
