Can I move and rename the backup files from BACKUP-TO-FILE session?

I'm in a positon where I have to run BE to a file on the server.

if I have to take the nightly backup files off the server and put them somewhere else, and perhaps rename them, doesn't that completely screw up the 'cataloging' ability of BE so that it will never be able to restore them if needed. In other words, those backup files would not be "know-able" by another copy of BE running on another machine so that it could restore them right?Please clear me up on this ?

You are correct.   if you rename the BKF Files, the catalog will be broken on the media server

 

if you are moving them to another BackupExec server, it would be better to create either a tape or removeable B2D and run a DUPLICATE job, then inventory/catalog on the other system
