Can anyone from Symantec offer definitive AOFO guidance?

Sorry to bang on about this, but having read the BE Admin Guide and combed the forum, I'm still not entirely certain I have it right.

Please can someone from Symantec clear up the detail of when to use AOFO and when not to, and what the optimum configuration is when using it?

My understanding is:

  • Exchange Information Store: Use Exchange agent, turn AOFO off.
  • Exchange Mailboxes: Use Exchange agent, turn AOFO off.
  • Exchange Public Folders: Use Exchange agent, turn AOFO off.
  • Windows operating system: Turn AOFO on, automatically select open file technology (it chooses VSS).
  • Miscellaneous apps and file data: Turn AOFO on, automatically select open file technology (it chooses VSS).
  • Active Directory data: Turn AOFO on, automatically select open file technology (it chooses VSS).
  • SQL Server databases: For database files, Use SQL agent, turn AOFO off. Include other SQL Server-related data (e.g. the application itself) in a backup job with AOFO on.
I would be very grateful if someone could tell me whether all this is correct, and put me right (preferably with the whys and wherefores) if it isn't. Thanks.
