Cannot Create or Edit Backup Selection Lists

Hi all i cannot create or edit backup selection lists in graphical mode. you can see an existing list in the text mode but the server does not allow any changes in the graphical model.

In fact i cannot browse locally or to any remote servers

Running
Version 10d with the latest service pack.
Small business 2003 server

Yes i can telnet into port 10000
yes i can browse the network and connect to other servers
yes i have repaired the local db
yes the local and remote agents are all running
yes i have verified the user rights.

funny thing is - if i do a quick selection and just to do a backup of a single folder - it works.. but i just cannot create a backup selection list to do other backups. Please HELP

Hi,

Please check the Backup Exec service account permissions using the following technotes:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/254239
http://support.veritas.com/docs/258988

Repair the backup exec installation:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/253199

Thanks!

Shilpa i have tried all of the above and just went ahead and redid it again. Still no luck!

This is very frustrating. Any idea where these backup selection lists are kept? if they are in the db - then is there a way to either delete and recreate the db or just completely reset the db to default state?

Hello,

Perform the following steps and verify the results.

1. Run Beutility from \Program files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT 2. Add the Backup Exec server to All Media Servers ( File >> New >> New Media Server ) 3. Right click on the Backup Exec server listed in "All Media Servers" and select "Repair Database"

Thank you,

Shweta

Shweta -

Did it - no dice. Still the same error.. I am willing to reinstall the software - what steps can i take to ensure that no trace of the old software and configuration remains when i do this?

Hello,

Please follow the below technote to start with a fresh database. In that case you would loose all your configuration information

Thanks

I had a similar problem with an installation on one of our servers. Rather than recreate the database and lose all the previous data I simply added the individual server names under "User Defined Selections". Not the neatest way to go about it, but it's been working for over 6-months without a hiccup.

Well after

1) Reinstalling the software
2) Recreating the DB
3) ReValidating the security and everything else. (Mind u i was using administrator account)

Here is what worked.
Created a new account and gave it the correct privilages. Now I still can't figure out why the local admin / Domain Admin account doesn't have the correct privilages even though it is in the right groups and all.

I guess thats the question for another forum.
