Catalogs folder

Dear Sirs,

We are using Veritas BackupExec 9 for some time now together with a Dell PowerVault 132T to backup 6 servers.
I have noticed that the catalogs folder is currently more than 4GB.

What is the best way to cleanup this catalogs folder?

With kind regards,

4 GB isn't very much for a catalog folder.

Anyway, you can edit the following from BE GUI:

Tools/Options/Catalog

Here you can set how long the system should keep old catalog files, if the tapes belonging to the catalog is not being used for backup or restore during this time.

Remember: Once the catalog file is gone, you are unable to select any files stored on that tape for restore ! You would have to re-catalog the tape first.

Also keep in mind, that if you set the remove unused catalogs" to e.g. 90 days (about 12 weeks) but your tape rotation uses the same tapes every 8 weeks, - nothing will be removed from the catalog folder, as no catalog will ever be older than 8 weeks.

Hope this helps

Regards

uz
