Cleaning Job fails with Time Out Error

Hi,

We are running Backup Exec V9.1rev 4691.

The cleaning job has started failing with the following error:

"(Server: "MSL19") (Job: "Clean Drives") Clean Drives -- The job failed wi th the following error: Library error - robotic library driver has timed out."

I have replaced the cleaning tape and set-up a new cleaning job. This ran and completed successfully once, but used the whole capacity of the tape. When I tried to run the job again it failed with the above error.

All firmware, drivers and BE are at their latest revsions/service packs.

Any ideas why this has started happening?

Thanks in advance for help,
Fiona

Hello,
We would suggest you to first check if your device is listed as tested or compatible in the Backupexec HCL:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/271383

http://support.veritas.com/docs/271382

If the device is tested install the Backupexec drivers from Veritas.

- If the device is listed as compatible , use OEM drivers.

Hope that helps you.

IF the Problem persists, please write back to us with a more detailed information.

Hi,

Many thanks for the reply.

I have checked the HCL list and my HP StorageWorks device is listed as tested. I have downloaded and installed the BE driver and will test this asap.

Best Regards

Hi,

After downloading and installing the BE drivers the time out problem has been resolved.

One issue remaining is that a single run of the Cleaning Job now shows the whole capacity of the tape as having been used. Is there any reason why this should have started happening? Usually a cleaning tape can be used for several months before being replaced.

Fiona
