I'd took a careful look over at the other posts here, and tried the pause/unpause trick on the media server with no luck. It happens on Export, Import, Inventory and Erase. Running backup and restore jobs seems to work okay. Tried:
1) Stopping/starting or restarting services
2) Restarting just the tape drive (both soft and hard resets)
3) Restarting just the server
4) Restarting both
5) Checking for new updates, not getting any, and restarting
Has anyone else found any other work-arounds or fixes other than just pausing/unpausing the media?

I am having same problem, the only way to work around is that I stop services and export the tape from the library directly and then import new tape.
I still have a problem with erasing the tape that one thing, the other is that stopping the services make the backup group unavailable ( as its exchange server).
Did you have any luck with support tech. from Symantec?
