Could not be accessed...

Hi everybody,

I have a job that keeps failing with below details:

__________________________________________

Job completion status:

Final error: 0xe00084af - The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed.

See V-79-57344-33967

Errors:

Directory \\servername.domain\E:\ was not found, or could not be accessed.

___________________________________________

I'm running:

BE 2010 R2, with hotfixes 358289, 140360, 358410, 138226.

Windows 2008 R2, Std, x64.

Backup device:

Windows 2003 Ent, x32

Drive E: is a shared disk (HP MSA) and shows as a RAW file system within windows.

If I manually run a new backup task, the E: drive is backed up OK.

If i run the backup as a scheduled job, it fails with above error.

I have recreated the selection list - this allows me to browse to the destination device and select folders & test the backup user credentials - all OK.

As the Drive is a RAW file system (has Oracle DBs on it), there are no permissions to set within Windows.

Can anyone shed any light on the issue?

Many Thanks,

bk73

Please disable the Antivirus before the schedule backup job & see if that works if that works next time make an centralized exception  in Antivirus to exclude the symantec folder & then see if that works

This issue is caused by antivirus let me know with further updates

It seems that during the schedule backup antivirus scann the files due to which backup are failing with cannot access the directory

Also please enable AOFO option in backup job because if there are any open file it can backup those

Thank You

Hi itsmeaffinity,

The scheduled task is setup as follows:

Device and Media:

Enable direct copy to tape - ticked.

General:

Incremental using archive bit.

Verify after backup - ticked.

Advanced:

Back up files and directories by following junction points - ticked.

Without a lock - ticked.

Advanced Open File:

Use advanced open file option - ticked.

Automatically select open file technology - ticked.

Process logical volumes for backup one at a time - ticked.

There is NO AV running at the time of the backups.

AV is installed thou (Symantec EndPoint protection).

The AV option would not explain why the manually created task works.

Thanks,

Hi Kiran,

I checked the tech doc but it refers to VSS issues.  The drive being backed up is a RAW file system and therefore VSS does not apply (no tab option for 'Shadow Copies' or 'Security' when viewing the properties of the drive).

Thanks,

Hi Bk73

Thanks for your earlier post but for isolation please can you disable the End point before one schedule backup job because i have seen lot of similar issue in past & if it works then we need to diagnose it from AV side if it doesn't then I will help you with the further diagnosis on same

I will wait for your reply

Thank You

Also please check the Event viewer to check if there are any events generated when the schedule backup job tries to access the E: drive for backup.

Thanks,

Is the drive a mapped drive?  You cannot use a mapped drive for your backup.  A mapped drive is associated with an online session and BE runs as a batch job.  Use the UNC name instead.

Hi all,

Since yesterday...

I have deleted the selection list, policy and all jobs for the affected client.

Restarted the BE services on the Media server.

Recreated list, policy and scheduled job.

This failed again.

On the client:

Disabled the Symantec Endpoint protection and stopped all endpoint services.

Re-attempted the scheduled job - still fails.  Does this rule out the AV on the client?

Sush...

The event log on the client reports the following error:

Event ID: 57481

Source: Backup Exec

Description: An unusual error (1) was encountered while enumerating the contents of the directory:

\\servernamame.domain\E:\

It is possible that files or subdirectories have not been backed up.  Please examine your job log or catalogs to ensure this directory tree was backed up in its entirety.

pkh,

Its not a mapped drive on the client.  Its a shared disk connected to the client via a fibre channel card.  The drive is presented locally to the client device and cannot be accessed via a unc path.  Two oracle servers are connected to this shared drive and use it for the oracle DBs.

Thanks,

phk,

I found one of your other posts which links to the sgmon tool.  Can the log from it be added here or is it just for sending to Symantec?

Thanks,
