Hi!

  • Backup exec 12.5 installed on a 2003 server 32bit.
  • 64 bit agent was installed on the 2008 server , which is a Domian Controller too.
  • The 2008 Server appears in the servers list of BE 12.5, but when I click on it, it says (Failed to login)
  • The user used for backup is a Domain admin, enterprise admin, backup operator. and currently used to backup other servers successfully.
  • Good to mention, the 2008 Server is in another site, connected to the Backup media server via WAN.
  • On the 2008 server, I get this output:

Please go to Network-> Logon Accounts and verify the presence of "System Logon account" and make sure it has the domain admin privileges, ensure that it has correct password, you can click on edit and "change password' to confirm the same. Also, hightlight it and click "set default" to make it a default account.

Ensure that the target machine has Backup Exec Remote Agent installed and started with "Local System Account". If it is not present, install it and ensure the service is started. Check backup exec selections after this is confirmed. Also, ensure there is no firewall blocking port 10000 on the Windows 2008 server. You can test telnet command from Backup Exec server, by running "telnet <2008 server name> 10000".

Please mark it a solution, if this is useful.
Thanks

Thanks Rahul and Hemant for your answers.

1: I could access the 2008 server via UNC, could get to c$ even, when I was looged in to the Media server with the same user account used for backup.

2: I could Telnet the 2008 server on port 10000

3: I checked the password again, it's correct, System account, and the default one.

4: The same User account is used to backup another Domain Controller, and no issues noticed.

5: on the 2008 server, I have Symantec Endpoint Protection antivirus, does that have anything to do with this?
I disabled it already, but still not able to backup.

Removing the Antivirus from the server, I belive it's not a good idea to have it there anyhow

Can you please check if the RAWS on the Domain Controller is publishing to the the correct Media Server.

To check which media server does RAWS publishes the info:
Start the Remote Agent Utility (Start -> Symantec Backup Exec Remote Agent Utility)

Go to the Publishing Tab:

Confirm if "Enable the Remote agent to publish information to the media servers in the list" is selected and that the name of the intended media server is listed in the box below. If not, click Add and add the media server.

Also, if the above solution doesn't help, please check if the version of your Backup Exec is the same as that of the RAWS.

When you apply a hotfix to your media servers, you often need to also update your remote agents.

To check the version of RAWS installed on the Domain Controller:

  1. Go to the Add/Remove programs (Programs and Features in Windows 2008) -> RAWS Version is displayed alongside RAWS listing.
Else, start a backup job in Backup Exec.

On the Backup Job Properties windows that opens, go to Selections, navigate to the Domain Controller machine from within Windows System node.

Right-click the server, and click properties.

On the Properties windows, RAWS Version is displayed.

Make sure this is the same version as that of Backup Exec media server.

To check Backup Exec media server version:

From the Backup Exec console, click Help -> About

Regarding the RAWS, yes it's being published to the right media server. I checked in the client, and the Media server that I'm using is there.

I checked both on the media server, and on the DC. the version is 12.5 Rev 2213.0

When I right click the DC in the selections tab of the Media server, I get thiese info shown in the screenshoot.

I noticed that the RAWS version on the machine bering-STS-CTA is not being displayed.

On the machine bering
  1. Go toProgram Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS\
  2. Right click beremote.exe, and select properties
  3. Select the version tab

In case, there is a version mismatch, you might want to reinstall RAWS on bering.
