DELL LTO 1 problems with 11d

I am having continual tape read/write errors during backup jobs on my Dell server with an LTO1 tape drive.

All the tapes I am using are band new and I have tried all of them after the problem starts to no avail.

If I restart the servers then it will work without errors for a few days.  But it will start up again.

I been in contact with at least one other person that had the same problems with similar hardware.  He ended up purchasing another backup product after hours of tech support and hardware testing that resulted in his hardware checking out, but still the errors.

Any ideas?

Backup Exec is tricky because for some reason Symantec tries to offer their own drivers.

Are you using your OEM (Dell supplied) drivers or the Symantec drivers?

I would recommend switching from whatever you are on, to the other one.

I have also seen at least one case of a tape drive which worked absolutely fine under Arcserv but required a firmware update in order to stop outputting write errors under Veritas.
