I'm having a strange issue with our Deduplication folder. We have a 9TB storage volume that is used soley for Backup Exec deduplication. Backup Exec reports 5.2TB used capacity meaning 2.8TB free. If you go into Windows explorer and look at the disk there is only 600GB free.
Why would this be reported so differently? If you go into the deduplication folder in explorer the data folder shows 8.37TB of data in the folder.
Is Backup Exec not purging expired media properly?
Thanks for your help. The server is Backup 2010 R3 with all patches applied.

Deduplication folder does not delete empty container and hence the space is not released to Windows Explorer. However the Space available within the containers will be reused by the Backup Jobs which are targetted to the Deduplication Storage Folder.
