Hi all,

I am have Server 2003 R2 SP2 with BE 12.5 installed on it, BE is all updated. I have an IBM TS2900 Autoloader for my drive.

I have reinstalled BE a few times now to get this issue working.

I cant see Slots in Devices under my Device.

Is anyone able to guide me to resolving this issue please.

Getting desperate now.

Thanks in advance.

Hello

Do you see the "Medium Changer" in the Windows device manager.

If Windows is not able to detect the autoloader then BE will show the

tape device as a standalone device instead of a library.

If you see the medium changer and still it is not detecting in the BE then make sure the library is compatible with BE.

Try the below steps as well:

Run the device configuration wizard from tools - device configuration wizard and install the symantec drivers.

You can also check the system error log for any kind of issues with the device not getting detected or any hardware issues.

Hey guys,

I can see the device in Device Manager, not sure if it is correct from you have mentioned.

I have attached an image of what I see.

Are you telling me that I should see slots there?

OK,

Just had a closer look at Device Manager.

Media Changers is there but it is showing as Unknown Medium Changer.

If I am using an IBM TS2900 is it a driver for that unit?

If the medium changer is configured with Microsoft drivers then it will appear

as "Unknown Medium changer"  (recommended)

1) Go to the BE installation directory and use tapeinst.exe to delete all instances of your library and tape drive.

2) Shutdown both your media server and tape library

3) Power up your tape library

4) Power up your media server

5) Go to the BE installation directory and use tapeinst.exe to install your library and tape drive.

Hi Amol,

What you recommend I do?

How do I resolve my issue?

Is it a driver issue with that Medium Changer?

A very useful document from Symantec KB to resolve device issues:

Hi guys,

At a complete loss now. Have tried pkh's steps with no success.

Have also gone through the KB article provided by KunJ.

Im still none the wiser.

One thing I found reading the Symantec KB article is that Medium Changer should be "Unknown Medium changer".

Anything else I can try.

This is really frustrating now.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi,

I have checked system storage TS2900 in the HCL and it is only compatible with the SAS interface.

Are you using the same library and what interface you are connected with.

Your library is in random or sequential mode?

just check the link for 12.5 HCL if it shows there

It looks to me like the drive is not being associated with the library so the drive is being shown as stand alone and because the library then appears to contain no drievs it is not being shown at all

Check the ADAMM.LOG file on the system concerned (note latest entrries in the Adamm log will be near the bottom so read from bottom upwards) look for any odd error ot status entries against your devices.
