Device Time Outs

Hello All,

We received the following error in our backup job log:

Failed Final error: 0xa00084f0 - The device timed out. Final error category: Backup Device Errors

I was unable to find any information regarding this in the knowledgebase. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,


-Check event viewer for Event id 7, 9, 11 or 15's

-Tape drive connected to a separate SCSI Controller or to a RAID controller ?

*check whether the device or drive you are using is supported and tested with BEWS version 9.1 ?

Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers (tm) 9.x (9.0, 9.1) Hardware Compatibility List. Includes HCL information for supported drives, libraries, virtual tape devices, fibre-channel HBAs, switches, routers/bridges, and iSCSI components. For printing purposes, the latest version of Acrobat is recommended.

*If yes install Veritas device drivers
VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20050115) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only).

The tape drive is connected to a SCSI controller card. I updated the SCSI card driver with the one I found on the Adaptec website. I found event id 7, which indicated "The device, \Device\Tape1, has a bad block." We are using an ADIC Fastor LTO Ultrium 1 drive. Thanks.
