BackupExec 10 & Exchange 2003- Append to mailboxes without duplicates?

Hi All,

In our environment we are using Windiws Server 2003 with Backup Exec 10.0 and Exchange 2003. We recently implemented a piece of compliance software which archives old e-mail into a database seperate from Exchange using a program called Alchemy. When this add-in was first set up, some important parameters were not configured. Because of this, our users lost up to 100 messages out of various folders that were older than a certain date. As our company is governed by the SEC and our users need to have all of their e-mail at their immediate disposal, this is not good. We tried to test out the Exchange restore features of BackupExec 10 by restoring a few mailboxes with the General settings set to append. I didn't know if this would work, but I tried it out anyway. It duplicated everything in the users' mailboxes that we tried it on, including contacts, tasks, and calendars. We actually had to buy a little $15 program to remove the duplicate messages beacuse of this. We only wanted to restore those select few messages that had been deleted the previous day by the compliance software. Is there any way to actually append to the messages currently in a mailbox without duplicating everything in the users' box? Just curious if there is any way to do this without restoring the whole mailbox, then going through and deleting all the duplicates.

Any help would be very welcome.

Thanks,
