Differential and Incremental Backup of Deduplication Storage Node did not work

SLY_CV
Level 3

Hi-

I tried a differential and an incremental backup of my Dedup Storage Node. Unfortunately, the byte count was approximately the same size as the full backup.

Background:

Best Practices for Backup Exec 2010 Deduplication Option says:

  • Perform regular backups of the deduplication storage folder and the database folder to removable media. In the backup selection list, the Backup Exec Deduplication Storage node is located under the User Data node under Shadow Copy Components.

  • Remove the Backup Exec Deduplication Storage node from the selection list when you create an Intelligent Disaster Recovery job. By removing the Backup Exec Deduplication Storage node, the deduplication storage folder will not be restored with Shadow Copy Components, but it can be restored from the separate backup if required.

After performing a full backup of the storage node, I tried to perform separately an incremental and a differential backup. Both were approximately the same size as the full backup (~480GB). I say approximately because these backups occurred on sequential days.

System / Platform Info

Dell R510

Dual 2.4 GHz Xeon

12 GB Ram

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard

Backup Exec 2010 R2 Deduplication Option

EDIT: I have attached Job logs of the Full and Incremental Backups.
