Hi
Does backup exec agent able to dump oracle backup to tape?
if yes, can we set up a policy such that we can use backup exec agent to dump oracle backup to tape?
also is it possible to amend any existing policy?
thanks

If you want to backup an Oracle database directly to tape, then you need to purchase the BE Oracle agent licence. Otherwise, you can dump the Oracle database onto a flat file and then backup the flat file onto tape with BE.

Once you have the Oracle Agent for Backup Exec, then Backup Exec uses RMAN funcationality to protect Oracle data.
Note that it is one of the rickier agents to configure as you have to provdie Oracel specific information in teh VxMon utility that is part of teh Windowsd Remoet Agent - and do something similar if Oracle is running on Solaris/Unix/Linu (check SCL for support)

previously you replied then Backup Exec uses RMAN funcationality to protect Oracle data
are you implying that we have to configure RMAN commands instead of relying the gui way of configuring backup from disk to tape as mentioned in https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/techtip-automating-backup-exec-disk-disk-tape-operations?
thanks a lot!

Unfortunately I am not an expert in backing up Oracle, so other than knowing RMAN is involved and knowing that some information regarding accessing the database has to be configured in VxMON. I am not sure of the specifics.
