I have this happen if my server try to back up at the same time. They all use the same media library. The only way I have been able to fix them is to reboot the server. I can never get the drive back unless I do. The library is still attached but the drive is not.

Hello,

Are you trying to run concurrent jobs to the same drive, when the drive goes offline?

Please update us on the same.

Thanks,

Yah that was what was happining. Instead of staying qued it would kick the drive offline. The only way to get it back it to reboot the server which is not accetable.

Hello,

We suggest that you do not concurrent jobs to the same drive.
you can run 2 different jobs to different drives.

Thanks,

Yah I figured that one out after awhile. But a question I have can you get the drive back without having to reboot the server? Should I start another thread for this?

I had this problem yesterday on one of my servers. I had to stop the Device and Media Service, then disable the tape drive in Device Manager. When prompted to reboot I chose no, then reenabled it. Restarted the Service, launched BE and I could see the drive as online.

I tried just restarting the services and power cycling the drive, but neither seemed to work.

Hi, I updated to SP4 and that seems to have fixed the problem.

As someone mentioned above the customer did run several jobs at the same time to the same media. (A discenclosure)
