Are you licenced for the vStorage API which is required by BE? VAPI is only included in the paid version of ESX.

PKN, is I have the licence.
The error persist:
The job failed with the following error: An attempt to take a snapshot of a virtual machine failed because it was unable to quiesce an application.

In certain cases, time sync also leads to the above error which you have mentioned. Confirm the time on the media server, VMs & ESX host are in sync. If not, use this KB - http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1035833
Secondly, is this a GRT or a non-GRT enabled backup ? And also open the job log & click on the Job History tab. Choose Expand All and scroll down the list & you would be able to see which is/are the problematic VM.

Thanks for answers.
VMware version = 5.0 / ESXi 5.0
OS = Windows Server 2008 R2
GRT is enabled. We need to use GRT.
I know the servers are problems (6 servers).

Have you tried to perform manual snapshots using VMWare. Does that work. Use the following options when you perform a manual snapshot to reconfirm -
Remove the check from "Snapshot the Virtual machine's memory"
Check option "Quiesce guest file system."
This Technote should help you isolate and troublesoot the issue

Hi,
Check what VJWare mentioned before.
In what time does the backup run? during bussiness hours or during midnight?
Try removing any existant snapshot from snapshot manager on vcenter, then, configure a job to backup only one VM select ndb transport and disable grt. If it works, then enable GRT and try again. Then add other vm, and so.

I noticed that the service BeVssProvider is started (MANUAL).
After job canceled I executed the command: vssadmin list providers
Provider name: 'Backup Exec VSS Provider'
Provider type: Software
Provider Id: {5fdb6ef5-6ead-4610-995b-401c88626115}
Version: 1.0
Provider name: 'Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0'
Provider type: System
Provider Id: {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5}
Version: 1.0.0.7
I unistalled the agents and installed again. I ranning the job again and finished with successfull.

I did a follow configuration and now the job not failed anymore.
But the job finished with Exceptions.
The job completed successfully. However, the following conditions were encountered: A snapshot operation required by this job was unsuccessful. Check the job log and the Windows Event Viewer for additional information
I tried to do a restore with a server that finished with exception and the restore finished successfully.
Follow the configuration that a did:

I have 79 servers, but just 2 or 3 servers had this problem. It's not a Problem, because the backup was done, but the job finished with exceptions... It's so bored to explain for audits. :)

Banfi,
Its good that the jobs are not failing.
Sometimes Exceptions come if application GRT is enabled in the backup job and it come across a VM where that application is not installed.
08-06-2013 11:30 PM
...if you know what those exceptions are (ie. they are constant), put in exclusions for them.
Thanks!

I did a test (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH129724) with just one server and the job finished successfully. I will wait until friday.
About exclusions, how work that?
Tks guys!
