Exchange 2007 mailbox restore BE2010

Hello Guys,

at the last week I tried to restore only one mailbox by BE 2010. Unfortunately the restore job crashed, and the First Storage group in excahange server crashed too (Transaction Logs error). I repaired the logs in few hours without data loss, but I never replay this event :)

This is my Idea: I create a new storage group in exch server, name is: test, and create a new mailbox database: test, and create a new mailbox in the test database, like test@company.com

Create a new restore job, and I redirect:

In the selection list: only one old mailbox....

Redirect Exchange sets

|--Restore to server or Database Availability Group: \\MYSERVER

|--Redirect usin VSS snapshot provider

| |--Redirect to Storage Group: Restore to Storage Group: test; Restore to database: test

|--Redirect mailbox sets: restore to mailbox: test@company.com

I hope this settings will not affect my first storage group....

My question: if I use this config, the first storage group will working on the restore job running time, and after the restore finish?

Hi,

I think the main issue here is to find out why the restore crashed your Exchange server in the first-place. It is supposed to be a lossless restore...you can restore directly into the Exchange Information Store without losing data.

If you did, I'd suggest checking the BE Alerts tab and looking for any errors, along with the Event Viewer to see if you had Exchange/BE errors during the restore. If there are, open up a new query around this.

I'd also suggest you familiarise yourself with the TN below which details the requirements to backup/restore Exchange 2007 using BE...

Thanks!

This technote seems to have same steps as you are trying:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH42421

I would prefer mailbox re-direct restore to new mailbox instead
