What permission should I used in able to backup and restore my Exchange using Backup Exec for Windows Server? Is the Exchange Administrator good enough to have a successful backup and restore?

I usually use the Exchange Full Administrator account for backup and restore of Exchange Server to avoid failed access or access denied to Exchange Mailboxes and Databases. Below are sample of the possible error that you might encounter if you're not going to use the Exchange Full Admin rights.

1. Logon account "System Logon Account" failed to access "\\Exchange\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes." Access is denied.

2. Unable to expand Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes in Backup Exec for Windows Servers job properties

3. When attempting a redirect restore of the Microsoft Exchange 2000 & 2003 Mailboxes in a different forest, following error is returned "Unable to attach to \\<SERVER_NAME>\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes. Access is denied" is returned.

Hi Thea,

A service account with domain admin permissions, along with membership of Exchange Full Administrator group.
At times you need to delegate admin rights in the Exchange snap-in for the service account you want to use, and I'd do this as a norm.

Are you going to run GRT? as this requires a unique account name.
