Exchange Restore

We are getting the following error when we try to restore Exchange Information Store:

"Unable to restore some Microsoft Exchange components because one or more of the databases are currently mounted or because the Recovery Storage Group is not properly configured. Use the Exchange System Manager to check the configuration of the Recovery Storage Group and the mount status of the databases."
After digging around, it says we cannot restore if the backup was a snapshot.  Our backups are snapshots.  So my questions is, how do we backup our Exchange server with a full backup instead of a snapshot?

Oh, btw, we are able to successfully do a individual item restore on Exchange with the snapshot backup.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Is this Exchange 2003 or 2007?

We are using Exchange 2007.  AOFO has been turned off too.  Our backup method is Full - Database & Logs (flush committed logs) and "Enable the restore of individual mail messages and folder from Information Store backups" is checked.  "Perform consistency check before backup when using Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot provider" is checked.

We are using 11d Service pack 2 with HF 32, 33, 34, and 35.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

With Exchange 2007 all backups of the information stores are done using Snapshots.  This is regardless of if AOFO is selected or not.  Exchange 2007 has its own VSS writer that is installed with Exchange that is used for backups.

If you wish to do a non snapshot backup of Exchange 2007 you will have to use NTBackup or something similar.  Also if you have SP1 installed you will have to enable Streaming backups, which was disabled with the installation of SP1 because Microsoft wants Exchange 2007 backed up with snapshots.

Is it possible to do a full restore of Exchange 2007 on a different machine with Symantec 11d?

Thanks!

Yes, Check page 1273 of the Admin Guide for the steps to redirect the restore.
