Exchange agent backs up to remote share - cannot choose overwrite, alwasy keeps data indefinitely

Hi folks,

We run two backup execs - one installed locally on a NAS that backs up files etc, and one on the exchange server that also backs up to a remote share on the NAS.

If i go into backup exec on the NAS, I can see the media set under the "Media" tab, and can change the "Overwrite Protection Period" should I wish to do so.

If I login to backup exec on the Exchange Server however (which only uses the Exchange Agent to backup Exchange), I cannot see the media set under "Media" and it shows it as "Keep Data Indefinitely - Do Not Overwrite". Also if I go to the properties of this media set the "Overwrite Protection Period" options are greyed out and set to keep data indefinitely.

Please can you advise/assist as I'm missing something - I need to change the "Overwrite Protection Period" to overwrite the media as the exchange backups occur, rather than keep indefinitely.

Cheers,

Evren

If Overwrite preotection period is grayed out , then check the media protection level from tools->options->media management. Refer to below technote

Under VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) Media Set Properties, the field to set Overwrite Protection period for a media set is missing and the field indicating Overwrite Protection level reads 'NONE' and is grayed out.

And do not use the default media set which is keep data infinitely.

Create a new one according to your settings.

About the default media set

Right click on Media sets , and selecte create new media set.
