Exchange management service hung on starting. Event ID 7022

After upgrading BE from 9.0 to 9.1(on Windows Server 2000 w/Exchange) we seem to be experiencing hang up on starting error messages on boot up and restarts. Exchange does start, but not before the system reports the hang.
Coincidence? Possibly. But I'm guessing this isn't the only incident of this nature happening and perhaps someone can offer a thread I can pull on to resolve this issue. I came up empty using a variety of searches in this forum.
Any help or information on this anomaly would be of great help.
