Excluding directories and files for NDMP backup selections

I have been trying to create a NDMP pattern to exclude files and directories from an EMC Sans.  I have been working with Symantec Tech support we and haven't been able to determine why the selection and the exclusions patterns are not working.  I have pasted in to this discussion forum the below link that, was recommended by Symantec in order to obtain a poper backup with the exclusions that I'm seeking to no avail.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO23324#v15078155

I'm running the following environment: Symantec Backup Exec 2010 r3 SP2, Hotfix 180429, Hotfix 176937, Hotfix 191248, Hotfix 194471, and Hotfix 195395. Windows 2008 SP2-32 bit with 32-GB of Ram.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

Hello,

do you have the parent folder selected in the backup job?  take a look at the following document for more info and the related links to see if they help  http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO23329

It might help if you gave us details of the folder structure (even if you change the exact folder names for data protection) giving an idea of what you want to exclude and what you want to include. I know the NetApp excludes were a pain as you cannot use the / or \ chacters which meant you had to be very careful what you exclude as it might apply anywhere on the volume. HOWTO23329 seems to indicate that for EMC you can use these characters but do have other limitations.

Also bear in mind that our NDMP options in effect use programming calls into the NDMP interfaces provided by the hardware vendor, as such you might need to look at any documentation from EMC themselves on valid NDMP exclude patterns (as well as bearining in mind the details in our HOWTO23329 document)
