Exobyte LTO3 1X7

I have a few questions regarding Veritas and an Exobyte LTO 1x7.

Currently Veritas is showing my LTO3 Tapes to have a capacity of 373 GB. These tapes are 400/800 LTO3. Any idea why it is reporting less then 400 GB? I would hope it actually has well over 400 considering it can have up to 800 GB.

Second questions is there a way in Veritas to tell which backup job to use which slot in the library? Basically I always want the full backup job to go to slot 1, and the daily incremenatals to use slot 2 on Tuesday, slot 3 on Wednesday etc.

Thanks
Neil

Hello,

Please refer the following technote:
Backups fail to get double the amount of the native capacity recorded to a media, even when hardware compression is being utilized.

About your second query you can refer th efollowing technote to assign the jobs to different slots in Backup Exec.

Thansk for the reply, but I did not ask why am I not getting the full 800 GB. On the tape properties in Veritas 10 for Windows Servers it shows 373 GB usable. This is right above the vompression which is showing 2.12:1 which os fine.

Here is my question....

Is the 373 GB referring to uncompressed available space or compressed? Obviously if it is compressed then it is seeing the lto tapes as 2 rather then 3's.

Please answer my question this time around. IT will save us both a lot of time.

Thanks
Neil

My LTO3 tapes are being recognized in BE10 as 391gb available.

Hello,

As you are using the tapes of capacity 400/800 GB LTO3 and in the properties in Backup Exec it is showing as 373 GB available capacity, please note that this is normal.
There is no problem with th toatal capacity.

Even if it's capacity is 400 GB , Backyp Exec queries to the firmware of the device and it displays the information.

So there is no problem of compression also.

However we suggest you to inventory the media and install the latest Veritas device drivers before using it.
