Failed Backup - Nothing in log as to why

Backup Exec 8.60 Rev 3878

We're getting intermittant failed backups. And there is no obvious reason why. It is backing up the expected amount of data, taking the expected amount of time to do the backup but, there is nothing in the log (or Event Viewer) to indicate why the job failed.

Any ideas on why this is happening or, how to troubleshoot this further?

It's a long story but, upgrading to the latest (or newer) version isn't an option.
