Failing to backup Micorosft Exchange information Store

Please help!
I use Backup exec 12.5 for all backups. Of late, I can't backup exchange successful as I get 'A failure occurred querying the writer status.' When I ran Vssadmin writer list, Exchange  shows error status (7).

I am running exchange 2003 on Windows 2003 server platform

1) I have tried to restart the exchange server without any success

2)  I have tried to install the exchange agent locally also without any success

Hi there,

Are you running AOFO with your backup? Take it off, and see how this affects it.
Furthermore, you can try uninstall the RAWS from your Exchange server (assuming it's on a separate server), and then running the installation via a push from your backup server.

Hello,

Install the VSS Rollup patch http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349 (REBOOT REQUIRED) on the exchange server and try backups

The VSS Rollup patch seem to have done the magic. Thanks a lot , my full backup has been successful after a good 2 weeks.
