Files not Backed Up

Calvin_Wilson

A variety of files are not being backed up from a Windows 2000 Server. Example names include:
CLAudRC.dll
dvd5.gif
iPower.txt
ipower_1.txt
new.css
PowerDVD.sim
pp2.gif
Readme.htm
start.htm

Sample paths:
F:\packages\p\Powerdvd_2\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\Cyberlink\PowerDVD\HTML\dynamic\english\dv-entertainment\images\products\dvd5.gif

F:\packages\a\attachmate_1\documents and Settings\alex.DISCOVERY\Local Settings\Temp\SSW263.tmp

Also being missed are a number of files in C:\windows\system32\config or c:\winnt\system32\config for Windows 2000 and 2003 servers. On a sample server the following were missed:
AppEvent.Evt
default
default.LOG
default.sav
SAM
SAM.LOG
SecEvent.Evt
SECURITY
SECURITY.LOG
software
software.LOG
software.sav
SysEvent.Evt
system
system.LOG
system.sav
TempKey.LOG
userdiff
userdiff.LOG

No errors are generated to indicate that any of the above files are missed during the backup.

Please advise as to what mechanism is preventing the backup of these files and what steps can be taken to ensure that they are backed up in future.

Hello,

This is because these files are in use when you try to back them up. You can purhcase the Advanced Open File Option so that you can backup the 'in use' files, i.e., the files which are open and running during the backup.

For more information contact the Sales department .

For any purchase or licensing issues, you can contact our Sales team either by email or telephone as mentioned below:

I understood that when files were in use and, therefore, skipped that there would be an indication of that in the job log. Not so?

Any of the system files you mentioned are a part of the system state.

You can backup the system state without purchasing any options, just select the system state in your selections.

You will not see the individual files in your backups, rather, you must restore the whole system state to get these files.

As the system state files are all through your C:\WINNT, they are silently ignored, to prevent "skipped" errors on a perfectly good backup.

Well, check whether the security properties of the directories and folders which hold these files. Check whether the Backup Exec account has full rights on these directories.
