I have 2 host VMWare VSphere 4.1, each one contain one Virtual Guest of W2K8x64 + Exchange Server 2007. I have configured W2K3R2x64 + BESR2010R2 SP1 on another server , to backup the VM Guest for each Exchange Server and to do daily backup for the Exchange database.

So i have 2 agents : VMWare Agent Infrastructure and Agent for Exchange Server

I have scheduled weekly backup to backup the virtual machine of Exchange Server, daily backup for Exhange Database.

Last week one of the Exchange Server crashed and i succesfully restored one Virtual Guest Exchange Server.

My problem is that now i can't backup the Exchange Server database on daily basis.

The error that was shown when i tried to backup my database :

V-79-57344-65233 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\AIEX-01.indrapura.co.id\Microsoft Information...
Snapshot provider error (0xE000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
Writer Name: Exchange Server, Writer ID: {76FE1AC4-15F7-4BCD-987E-8E1ACB462FB7}, Last error: The VSS...

Steps that i've done :

1. Uninstall RAWS, reboot and push install the RAWS on the Exchange Server and it didn't work

2. Use "vssadmin list writers" and found out there was an error on the Excchange Server.

The "Microsoft Exchange Writer" Last Error status was Time Out as attached.

The solution that i found on the forums are base on Windows Server 2003

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH42921

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/failure-occured-querying-writer-status

I followed the instructions :

1. Open a command prompt (Start>Run>CMD).

2. Execute the following commands:

Net stop vss
Net stop swprv

3. Change directory to \windows\system32 (i.e.: cd C:\windows\system32)

4. Register the below mentioned .dll files by executing the following commands:

regsvr32 ole32.dll
regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
vssvc /Register
regsvr32 /i swprv.dll
regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll
regsvr32 es.dll
regsvr32 stdprov.dll
regsvr32 vssui.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml4.dll

5. Execute the following commands:

Net Start vss
Net Start swprv

6. Re-run the command vssadmin list writers.

It still didnt work.

The next step is to patch, but the only patch are for Windows Server 2003, while the OS that i'm using is Windows Server 2008 x64.

I have attached the job status, logs, errors.

Are there Windows 2008 x64 patch for the VSS or are there any other solutions ?

Did you saw the following document http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH129893  "

Running  the "post-thaw-script.bat" from C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS\VSS Provider

I think this should help in resolving the issue
