General Verify Question

BackupExec Gurus,

I have hopefully a simple question about the verify stage of backups.  We are doing a simple backup of backing up the local media server along with 3 other remote servers.

When the backup is done and it goes into the verify stage, is BackupExec just verifying that it can read the data on the tape?  Or is it reading the data on the tape and comparing it to the original?

The reason I ask, is that one of our remote servers backup if very large and the backup completes during the night, prior to users connecting to it.  But the verify sometimes will still be running in the morning.  I am just wondering if the verify stage could affect performance of the data on the remote server.

Thanks.

Verify does not compare backed up data to the source (a silly idea on a server, if you think about it)

All it does is read the backed up data, compute checksums and compare the checksums to those written on the tape/BKF file

If the checksums match, the backed up data is considered good, and the Verify is successful
