Guide lines for AOFO

I have some question about AOFO that I hope the people in here can help me with.

We have from time to time problems with backing up some files, not always the same files. This offends results in a frozen backup job.

As a solution I have thought about AOFO. But after reading up on it in the manual, there are a few thing I like to get in place before installing that option.

1. It stats that using AOFO need at least equal disk space as the size of the backup. Is that total size of backup on that disk or per file, in that AOFO reserves and releases the disk space for every file it backup?
2. Not all areas are recommended to AOFO on, what about these:
a. Exchange?
b. SQL?

Any other hints or guide lines would also be welcome.

Yours,

Poul Nielsen

Hi,

Advanced Open File Option(AOFO) can be used for backing up database type files that Backup Exec does not offer an agent for.
Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft SQL, Lotus Domino, and Oracle all have database agents. These applications do not require the use of AOFO to back up their data nor is it recommended.
Jet Engine Database files, such as Microsoft Access databases, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) databases, and Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) databases, can be backed up using AOFO.
Refer to the following technotes for more information on AOFO :
