HP 1/8 Ultrium 960 Tape Autoloader

Hi,

This is very new device and was wondering if it is supported by any edition of veritas backups exec. A client just bought the device and has version 10.0 Rev.5484 and his autoloader is recognised a single drive and not autoloader?

Just wandering whether to buy it or not.

Hello,

From the hardware compatibility list given below, please check if your device is tested.

(title)Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Servers Standalone Drives Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)

http://support.veritas.com/docs/274347

(title)Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Servers Robotic Library Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) (includes tested drives)

If its tested then you can install latest Veritas drivers. If its compatible then install OEM drivers.

The device is indeed tested and I have also installed BackupExecTapeDeviceDriverInstall_277619.exe which is the drivers pack, but no luck - it still shows the drive as single and not autoloader.

Hello,

You may refer to the technote given below.

(title) An autoloader drive appears incorrectly under standalone drives, and a device reported as "Unknown Drive - Disabled" is displayed under Changers on the Devices tab of the Backup Exec for Windows Servers interface.

http://support.veritas.com/docs/235252

Check for event ids.
Also refer to the technote given below.

Thanks but that has not made any difference.

I noticed on the compatibility list that:
HP StorageWorks 1/8 Tape Autoloader HP^^^^^^1x8^autoloader Multi LUN HP StorageWorks Ultrium 960 LTO3 HP^^^^^^Ultrium^3-SCSI SCSI LTO Tested

is tested, but there is no mention of which firmware you tested with!? the autoloader has Rev. 1.40 - 28/7/2005 which is the initial public release...

Also this is an extract of the adamm.log file - can you decypher this for me:

Hello,

Verify if you have connected the changer to the SCSI target ID between 2 to 5.
Please note that changer should be connected to the lower scsi id than tape drive.

Are you getting the event id's as 7, 9, 11 or 15 in the system event log?

As per http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/237047.htm
The target LUNs for an auto-loader and tape drive that are multi-LUN based should be configured so that the target LUN for the tape drive is lower than the target LUN for the changer (such as: tape = 0, changer = 1).

So this is how the devices appear:
the drive is slot 03, channel A, id 4, LUN 0 and
the autoloader is slot 03, channel A, id 4, LUN 1

I noticed that in device manager under medium changers says Unknown medium changer, but the drive is inder tape drives is correct Hewlett Packard LTO Ultrium-3 drive

Looking at this can you confirm that you really support the current firmware version?

I've got the exact same problem with our HP 1/8 Ultrium 960 Tape Autoloader, although we're using firmware 1.46.

Do I need to open up a new thread for this to be answered by any VERITAS representatives?

any one got a solution to this? Veritas certain don't think this is an issue with their software as they keep pointing me back to the forum to find the solution for myself.
