Hardware replacement issues

Ok, so I am new to BU exec and have never replaced bad drives. I have an ADIC scaler 1000 with SDLT drives in it. I had two drives go down 1202 and 1207. I called and the ADIC and they came out and replacedthe bad drives and they left. Well when I power up the backup server windows 2003 and backup exec 9.1 the drives now come up as QUANTUM1 for 1207 and QUANTUM2 for 1202. Then I see the old drive names 1202 and 1207 showing up in standalone offline drives. Now the new drives work with the names QUANTUM1 and QUANTUM 2 but would really like to stick to my naming convention. If I try and rename the drives it tells me there are already drives with theat name configured? How do I fix this?

Thanks

Hello,
The old drives need to be disabled and deleted in the device tab in Backup Exec, after which you may reconfigure the new drives which can then be renamed.

For future reference, you need to delete the drives from within BackupExec before they are physically removed.

You can try this:

Remove the two current drives (from the Devices Tab)
Run the latest TapeInst ( http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/273853.htm ), and select "Remove drives that are no longer attached to Backup Exec"

That should remove both old drives and then add the two new ones. You may need to rename the two new drives after they have been added. From the Devices Tab, right click the drive\Rename

Hi,

If the drive is just disconnected from the media server, it will not be automatically removed from the database. Because, that will effect all the backup jobs which are associated with the removed tape drive. Before you
can delete the drive, the drive must be disabled.

Please update us on the issue!
