How do I troubleshoot delayed backup job execution.

RogerSmithIII

We have an installation of Backup Exec 11 for Windows Server running.  We installed the Windows XP agent on some workstations, set up some shares, and told BE to back up the files in those shares.  Following those backups, we're backing up the actual server using a separate job.  For some reason, we can back up the workstations manually without any delay by logging into the server, and telling a job to execute.  When the schedule runs, those backups are sometimes taking 7, 14 and even 55 hours to complete.  The job eventually finishes successfully, but it prevents the next server job from running.  Looking at the log files on the long running job, it seems as though the job starts at the correct time, but backups don't start copying for hours at a time.  For instance, the most recent backup job started at midnight, but the first file didn't copy until 2 in the afternoon.

Can someone provide some advice on how to troubleshoot this?  It almost seems as if something is waiting for a response, and doesn't allow the jobs to proceed on schedule.

Thanks
Rog
