This error appears on our 2010 R3 media server: The remote computer is running a previous version of the Backup Exec Remote Agent. Strange thing is that the "remote computer", is the media server itself. The remote agent is not listed when I attempt to uninstall, but it is running as a service. I would like to remove it manually, but not sure if I should. Can the remote agent be removed without affecting functions of the media server? If so, can anyone provide instructions for manually removing the remote agent without affecting files needed for the media server?

The engine service is dependant upon the remote agent service. Have you tried to run a repair of the software?

Remote agent cannot be removed from the media server, it gets installed along with the core product
Infact its part of the core product installation.

I am trying the repair now. I'll see tomorrow if it made a difference.

double check if any of your remote servers has it installed.
Backup Exec logs are a real pain to read. It could be that if you are backing up a network drive that server may have the agent installed and even tho you are not using it BE might be bright enough to recognise it
