How to append data to tapes with Backup Exec 2010

Hi all. I've created a policy that creates a weekly full backup, verifies it, then creates daily incremental backups and verifies them. Weekly full backups use tape drive installed on media server and associates media with media set that sets overwrite protection to 6 months and allows infinite append to media. Several jobs were created with that policy using several selection lists. But when that jobs start they ask for OVERWRITABLE media and cannot append data to used tapes with some available capacity. Why that happens?

Check that the Device and Media properties of the policies in question and make sure that  the When the job begins property is set to Append to media and not Overwrite.

Hi,

You need to check the append period in your media sets. If those are incorrect...say too short...the backups won't have tapes to append too. Those tapes effectively become overwrite/append protected.
If you set your append period higher, you should be able to append to tapes with any free space.

Laters!
