We are running BackupExec 10.0. We also purchased BackupExec SQL Agent. We have SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition running on Windows 2003 Standard Edition server. What would you recommend the method to backup SQL2000? Thanks.

We use SQL Server native backup which is online, means can run without affecting existing SQL processes. What we do is backup SQL using its native backup and put it on a network share. backup on SQL can get trickier, your DBA is the best to answer that. it all depends upon how much data loss can you afford? transactional backup can get you the most recent data, provided you schedule FULL, Differential and transactional backups in an appropriate sequence.

Thanks for your quick response. Can you verify my understanding? So, you do two backup jobs by using SQL backup. One is to backup the database. The other one is to backup the transaction log. For the transaction log, you do full and differential back-ups.

Thanks.

Hallo,

If you have SQL database running on another server, install SQL Agent on Backup Exec media server and push install remote agent to the remote SQL server.
