How to change 'overwrite protect' 'appendable to' date on a specfic tape

I have a tape which was placed into the drive (and used) accidently.

It has taken on the properties of the correct tape set but the 'overwrite protect' and 'appendable to' dates are wrong. From what I can tell it will not do the append backup job for monday as that is what the 'appendable to' date is.

I do not want to loose the data on the tape, nor do I want to put in another tape as the same thing will happen, throwing out our tape rotation scheme (we put in a tape every thursday, on a five week rotation scheme).

Any ideas on how to change the dates ?

Thanks,
Michael.

Create a new media set and drag that media to that media set.

Please refer to the following links:

- The basics of Advanced Device and Media Management for VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) for Windows Servers
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/192265.htm

- An explanation of the "Overwrite Protection Period" and the "Append Period"

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/237374.htm

We hope this will help.

Thanks for that, however I think that will complicate matters somewhat.

I have looked further and instead of changing the date for that specfic tape I have changed the append period for the whole tape set instead. This has now brought the tape into the right date sequence. I will change the append date length back to the original setting when I next put a tape in.

I have noticed that this has now made the previous tape in the set now appendable. I wonder if the program will attempt to use this tape instead (even though it is not loaded atm) ?

Thanks for the help,
Michael.

Hi,

As you have changed the append period for the media set, it will affect all the media in that particular media set. This is so coz the media set properites are propogated down to all the media in that media set.

Move the tape to scratch media pool.
Hope this help.

To isolate the issue, it is suggested that you to apply Backup Exec Service Pack 1. It resolves many issues seen in the previous builds and versions of Backup Exec.

Media set properties like "Overwrite Protection Period" and "Append Period" cannot be changed for a single media in the mediaset. It applies to all the media. You may also create a new mediaset with same Overwrite Protection Period and Append Period as the previous mediaset and drag all the media to the new media set and observe the results.
