How to disable tape drive cleaning?

Philip_D
Level 5

I have a Dell ML6020 that automatically cleans the tape drives.  Lately Backup Exec has been trying to clean the tape drives, and I have no idea why, as I don't believe it's ever done this before in the 3 years I've managed this sytem.  I reset the cleaning statistics but I cannot figure out how to tell Backup Exec to not try to clean tapes.  Assistance is appreciated.

Thanks!

Backup Exec automatically cleans a robotic library drive when the drive issues a tape alert that it requires cleaning.

Not recommended though, but you can attempt to disable that particular alert by going to Tools - Alert Categories.
Or
You can probably uncheck the "Automatically clear alert with" box, so it doesnt auto respond.
Or
You can also configure and set Backup Exec to send a notification to you when such alert pops-up so you can choose what to do with it.

Note: I have never attempted to do this myself, hence cant guarantee if this will work, but worth a try!

Please check if any of the slots are maked as cleanig slots. If yes, then unceck the box.

Hope this helps.

Please check your TapeAlerts.  These should be visible in the BE alert history.  They might also be visible in the library UI (web or LCD).

As Bhavik said, BE will respond to those cleaning requests from the tape drive by attempting to clean the drive.  I have never heard of BE running random cleaning jobs for no reason.
