How to make appendable backup to disk folders

We're using Backup Exec 2010 r3 with usb external hard drives as our removable backup to disk media. We've put 5 disks in a media set. We want to be able to put multiple backups on a single disk, but each new backup overwrites the previous backup. When we look at the media set and see each of the disks, in the 'Appendable Until' column, all disks say 'not appendable'.

How do we configure the disks to make them appendable?

Append is not a function of the B2D folder.  it is a function of the job and the properties of the media set involved

APP (Append Protection Period) is calculated from the time the first job starts writing to a a media so if the second job starts after the APP is expired, then the job cannot append

The job itself must also specify either "append" or "append, else overwrite"

BUT

You should make all disk based jobs Overwrite.

Appending to your media is not the solution to your problem.  When you append to a media, the OPP gets extended and you would not be able to overwrite and reuse your media.  Eventually, you would run out of space on your disk.

You should look at the OPP of your media set and extend it so that you can have more copies of backup on your disk.
