I can't see individual files with GRT??!!?

I'm just trailing VVI within BackupExec 2010 R3 and am unsuccessful at trying to get GRT to work.  With GRT option enabled backup job, I can't seem to see individual files listed when I try to do a restore.  I can't only see vmdk files.  Am I missing something?

Please advise.

Many thanks.

If you run a GRT enabled backup and if the job completes successfull, you will be able to restore individual files. For that you need understand how the restore job works.

When you open a Restore job, in the resources window, you can choose the VM by browsing under the VMware resources at the bottom. If you choose the VM from here, you will be able to restore it as a complete Virtual machine and not as individual file.

In the same selections window, you will also see the Netbios name of the Virtual machines listed seperately at the top(Not under Vmware resources). If you browse under the Netbios name, you will get to select the individual files inside the VM.

To perform GRT backups and restores you need to install Remote Agent for Windows on the VM.

Note that a physical node of a VMWare Guest would appear in the Restore Selections if GRT was used for backup. refer the figure in this document http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH145286.

Run live update and install all the available fixes as well. refer http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH63807

GRT restore selections show in a different part of the restore selectiosn tree than where the VMDK files are.

Instead of drillign down through teh VMware secltion you shodul find that there is a machien name container that is based on either the FQDN or short DNS name of teh Virtual machine that you backed up - drill down through this and you should see a set that matches the time of your VMware backup job.
