Inbox Restore from Exchange 5.5 to 2003

Is it possible to restore the inbox items from an exchange 5.5 backup to an exchange 2003 server?

I've tried so using the exchange redirection and the backup job was succesfull, but somehow I cannot see the restored items in the users inbox folder.

The exchange 5.5 server was completely removed and all I have is the backup tape before the removement.

I've never tried it, but seriously doubt that it will work, because of the changes to the database structure

It would be like trying to restore SQL 6.0 into a SQL 2005 database
