Hi All,

Does someone know if the Oracle Agent supports incremental backups? I was looking into the Admin Guide but I couldn't find anything about it. Please help me.

Thanks in advance.

Bonjour,

By default the Backup Exec Agent for Oracle Server backs up ALL files in the Oracle archived redo log file directory, regardless of the backup job type (normal, incremental, differential, etc). However, with the new configuration setting one can submit incremental/differential backup jobs, and the agent will back up only the archived log files that have been created since the previous backup.

Note: This configuration option affects only the backup of files in the archived redo logfile directory

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor can have disastrous results on a server operating system. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application.
To enable this feature:
1) Open REGEDIT or REGEDT32 to to the
2) Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\Backup Exec Oracle Agent".
3) Add the DWORD value "AllowIncrementalLogfileBackup" registry key.
4) Set the value of this new DWORD entry to any non-zero value (for instance 1).

After setting this value in the registry, you must stop and then restart the "Backup Exec Oracle Agent" system service using the Windows Server System Service control panel.

Now, one can perform incremental/differential backups of the Oracle archived redo logfile directory.
Related Information:
The Backup Exec Agent for Oracle Server does not support concurrent backup and/or restore operations. Attempting to back up or restore an Oracle database from more than one media server at a time will cause the operation to fail.

If you run a backup job that is created to protect individual table spaces, and a specified table space within the job is dropped from the database before the job runs, the dropped table space is not backed up. In this situation, Backup Exec does not provide notification of this condition.
