I have a problem backing up data using a HP Ultrium LTO 1 tapedrive.
When i backup only our caddrawings and office documents, which are about 40 GB, all goes fine and fits perfectly on 1 100 GB, uncompressed, tape. The backup reports a 1.9:1 compression after completion.
When i try to backup all data on our server, which is about 168 GB of data, backup Exec asks for 3 tapes, which is a bit silly as they are 100GB uncompressed. After completion of the job, the program reports a compression ratio of 0.7:1.
I did try to turn off compression, which resulted in my 168GB being backed up on 4 tapes and a compression ratio of 0.5:1.
I am a bit confused by these values, and was wondering if anyone here could shed some light on this situation.
