Invalid License Key

Hi

We have purchase backup exec but when we try and install it on our server we get an Invaldi License Key error.

We think we  have been confused when purchasing the product as we bought the SBS version. If we are running WIndows 2003 with SQL Server 2000 on the server (but no Exchange etc) have we bought teh correct verions. All the different versions are very confusing. our serial number is m502127359

Thanks

Steve

Welcome to the club!

Generally you need to register your license numbers on the cert at the website listed on the cert. Note you will need to create a Symantec Account using an email address. After registration, the licenses will be tied to this account.

Symantec will email you the actual license keys to enter into the server.  Note you must enter a license key for the media server or the keys for your agents will be rejected.  The media server on the cert is called Continuous Protection Server .....

Once all the everything is registered, you cannot enter any more trial agents/options

If you do not have Windows SBS, you cannot install BE SBS

If you have W2K3 with MSSQL, you should have BE + one MSSQL serial

Yes, that is the base product that is installed on your media server (hte machine that actually runs the backups )

You would also need one copy of the MSSQL Option to backup your SQL databases
