Inventory Fails error " Physical Volume Library Drive or Robot paused....

When trying to do an inventory our job fails with the following error:

"Physical Volume Library Drive or Robot paused, offline, or disabled."

The Tape unit is a Sony SDX-700C in a 15 tape robotic library.
It uses a 68 pin LVD connection on the back and is hooked to a mini68 pin lvd adaptec 29320ALP-R card. The driver for the tape device is the latest veritas driver 5.1.23 and the adaptec card has the latest drivers from adaptec 7.0.0.4. The cable is brand new and is also LVD. The tape unit works on our old version of backup exec 10d on a windows 2000 machine. The same updates have been applied to both versions of backup exec 10d on both machines. All devices show as functional in server 2003. I am not sure where else to go. Anyone out there that could help it would be appreciated.

Please verify if you are getting event id's 7,9,11 or 15 in the system event logs.

We receive one ID 15, but I believe that is from me switching the unit off to place it back on the old server so that we can run the backups at night. Beyond that the only errors that occur are within Backup Exec.
