Inventory of DeDuplication Folder Causes The Job Engine to Crash

I have just installed bkup exec 2010 R3 and applied all the updates. I setup a deduplication folder and ran a full backup of a server. When I attempt to run an inventory job against the "device" the job gets to 100% and then communication stalls and the job fails with the following error.

Inventory Device 00006 -- The job failed with the following error: The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding.

The tail end of the debug utility is below. I have set the automatic alert settings to respond to media events. I'm at a loss here. Any ideas?
